From Here to There

Documenting my everyday life and solitary travels, accompanied by my inflatable companion, I aim to evoke a multitude of readings, encompassing childhood, play, identity and sexuality. The resulting photographs, taken using a self-timer, develop into various media - including screen prints, linked by my passion for simple aesthetics, saturated colour and subversive humour. In addition to the social commentary implicit in these images, and my interest in gender representation, pornography and censorship, my work is a deeply personal exploration. Using erotism as a tool to illustrate the exclusionary relationship between sexuality and content is inevitiably risky. However it is my belief that it is this tension and ambiguity that creates discourse and in turn transformation. In 'making friends' with the crude dehumanisation of the sex doll and depicting our everyday activities I aim to create images that are simultaneously amusing and disturbing in an attempt to negate the misoginy of female objectification and the concept that feminity is a masquerade.
